Say it with me. My presence holds power.

What does it mean to be present?

When you’re truly present, your physical body and mind are working side-by-side, focused on the same thing.

It’s common and natural for the physical body to run on autopilot while the mind wanders in every other direction.

Spending time thinking about the past and future serves a purpose every now and again. When we habitually get stuck dwelling on past events or projecting into the future, we aren't able to live in the present moment. Over time this takes a toll on our mental health, physical wellbeing, and social connections.

Say it with me. My presence holds power.

Being more present comes with many benefits.

  • Elevated attention to detail = fewer distractions and mistakes.

  • More control over your thoughts = fewer unnecessary worries.

  • More focus on present events = greater capacity to learn and grow

  • Higher energetic frequency = greater levels of motivation, satisfaction, and overall happiness.

Learning to live in the present moment takes practice, but more importantly, awareness. It's easy to fall back into the habit of letting your thoughts run the show.

The good news is, the moment you realize you’re ruminating about the past or stressing over the future, you’re actually stepping back into the present moment. That awareness is your foundation from which you can build upon.

Here are 3 simple tips to try this week

Tune Into Your Environment

Use your senses to connect with your immediate surroundings. Naming a few things you can see, smell, feel, hear, and taste right now can take you out of your anxious thought cycle and back to the present moment. Your 5 senses only exist in the Now.

Say No to Multitasking

I often think I’m doing myself a favor when I try to do multiple things at once, but the truth is, I’m half-assing each task. My body's on autopilot and my thinking brain is all over the map. The next time you’re doing a task, slooooow dooown and savor it. What is the subtlest sensation you can notice? Draw your attention to the tiniest details, textures, and colors, and see what happens.

Unplug to Connect

Want to be more present with others? Put your phone away. And I don’t mean in your pocket or face down on the table. Willpower only goes so far. No matter who you’re with (your child, your friend, your partner, your team) give them your full attention. If you want to be a better listener and build connection and trust, being fully present with them makes all the difference.

The present moment is right Here and Now. It's the only place where life happens. Sense it. Savor it. Give it your full attention. While becoming more present certainly takes practice, just remember, your presence holds power.
